Join The Hive in 2025

Have you ever been in a bee hive before? Strange question right… 🙂 Well, we have, and we would love you to join us!

To be clear, we haven’t been in an actual bee hive, but we have created a wonderful online community (The Hive) to support our annual A K A Day challenge charity challenge, which aims to raise awareness of the prevalence of cardiac deaths in young people and in addition, raise money for CRY, a charity dedicated to preventing young sudden cardiac deaths.

So what does being part of The Hive mean? It means you are part of our A K A Day challenge, which promotes health and well-being by challenging you to move more in May, but why be in The Hive? Well, by taking part in this challenge and not only feeling the physical advantages, you will benefit from the great characteristics actual bee hives stand for, such as:

Hives are strong enough to withstand an unforeseen blow:
The community will support you in your challenge every step of the way

The diversity of bees is what makes the hive flourish:
This is an inclusive charity challenge, with something for everyone, from pram miles, to dog walking kilometres to those Ultra-bee’s taking on the 10k a day. All are welcome in The Hive.

Hives are strong enough to resist strong winds:
Even if you get blown off course, we will help get you back on track.

Bees build an effective hive as a collective team:
Money raised from taking part helps fund heart screening for young people to help prevent young sudden cardiac deaths. Just like actual bees, the contributions from those that join The Hive add up to make a significant difference.

Over the past five years of A K A day, the power of The Hive community has raised an incredible £20,000.This has helped contribute towards eight screening sessions, screening over 1500 young hearts to date.  Due to these tests being carried out, CRY’s data shows that over 95, ‘asymptomatic’ young people have been identified with abnormalities in tracings of the hearts rhythm which required referral for further investigation through our funded screenings. These young people are now equipped with essential information about their heart health, future treatment options and ultimately lives will be saved in Robert’s memory. The cost to screen one person is £68.

We can’t thank you enough, and would love to see some new faces in The Hive for 2025. Please join us and help us screen more young people and save lives.
