200 Young People Screened at Loughton Methodist Church

NEARLY 200 young people were screened for heart conditions at Loughton Methodist Church.

A total of 196 people aged 14 to 35 showed up at the screening which was organised by the charity Cardiac Risk in the Young and funded by the Robert Rowan Memorial Fund.

Helen, whose niece and nephew were screened, said:

“Please pass on our thanks to everyone involved.

“Thankfully both of them were fine but we felt it was important and feel so fortunate to have the scans.”

A special thanks to Jean and David Hobbs and their daughter Ruth. Ruth’s husband, Andy Scott, is a CRY patron and was a very good friend to Robert.

Twelve young people die from undiagnosed heart conditions every week, with 80 per cent showing no symptoms.

Screening is said to reduce this number by 89 per cent.

Cardiac Risk in the Young’s objectives is to prevent sudden cardiac deaths among the young through awareness, screening, and research, and to support affected families.
